Getting to Maputo by Air
There are direct flights to Maputo on a daily basis from Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Kenya and Lisbon. One can fly directly to OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg from thousands of international locations.
LAM (Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique) or Mozambique Airlines is the national airline and provides daily flights between Johannesburg (South Africa) and Maputo (Mozambique) as well as domestic flights connecting Maputo to Inhambane and Vilanculos and regional flights from Nairobi in Kenya or Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania to Pemba.
South African Airways also provide flights from South Africa to Mozambique, from international airports in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.

Although the Biosphere lodge is sprayed regularly against mosquitoes and it is unlikely that you will contract malaria while staying with us, it is still advisable that you take medical precautions such as malarial prophylaxis when travelling to Mozambique. You should also consult your doctor before your travelling and regarding recommended vaccinations.
Mozambique Travel Visas
Most nationalities require visas to visit Mozambique. These can either be secured in advance at your local consulate general or can be obtained from Mozambique's borders, including the international airports (approximately US$25 per person). South African citizens do not require visas but must pay an immigration fee (approximately US2.50 or R17). Cash is required for all visas and immigration tax payments at Mozambique airports. Holiday visas are valid for 30 days and can be renewed for a further 30 days.
Mozambique enjoys warm weather all year round with the cooler, dry season running from April to October/November. The weather is most temperate during this period with daytime maximums reaching around 24 to 27 degrees Celsius. November to March marks the rainy season. It is more humid and temperatures range from 27 to 31 degrees Celsius on the coast.
Mozambique has a tropical climate with two seasons, a wet season from October to March and a dry season from April to September. Climatic conditions, however, vary depending on altitude.
Mozambique Money and Currency
The official currency of Mozambique is the Metical, with one US dollar being equivalent to approximately 30 Meticals. The US dollar, the South African rand and the Euro are widely accepted in business transactions.
